David Eberspacher’s reputation of excellence in his legal practice continues a long family tradition. His grandfather, uncle, father, and brother were all attorneys or judges, and his niece and nephew are actively engaged in the practice of law in Shelbyville and Chicago, respectively.
David graduated from Shelbyville High School in Shelbyville, Illinois, and thereafter attended the University of Illinois where he studied political science and history and became a member of Beta Theta Pi social fraternity. After studying at Tilburg University in The Netherlands and Salzburg University in Austria, he returned to the University of Illinois and obtained his B.A. degree. David decided to carry on his family’s legacy by attending the University of Tennessee Law School, where he graduated with his Juris Doctor degree in 1978.
The first several years of David’s career were spent prosecuting criminal cases as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Saint Claire County, Illinois. In late 1980 he and his wife, Mary Jo, moved to Mattoon, Illinois where they have made their home ever since.
David is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Mattoon. Outside the office, you can find him sailing, pheasant hunting, and running. David and Mary Jo enjoy spending time on their houseboat on Lake Shelbyville with their black Labrador Retriever,” Denmark,” and their friends. David and Mary Jo are the proud parents of Sarah, whom they enjoy visiting in New York City.
For more than 22 years, David has maintained an AV® rating – the highest rating available – by Martindale-Hubbell® peer review. He has obtained a number of significant courtroom successes throughout his career and now focuses his practice on contested and non-contested estate and trust administration, real estate transactions, and partition cases, as well as estate planning.
