Local authorities have released initial details on a deadly Amtrak train collision involving a fertilizer truck in the small community of Savoy in east-central Illinois.
According to officials from the Champaign County Sheriff's office, a 42 year old man was driving a three wheeled fertilizer truck from a farm on Thursday evening, when he drove into the path of the Amtrak train.
The truck driver was airlifted to Urbana's Carle Foundation Hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
